Guglielmo Marconi was born on April 25, 1874 in Bologna and died on July 20, 1937 in Rome, is a physicist, inventor and Italian businessman. He is considered one of the inventors of radio and wireless telegraphy.
His name may ring a bell because it is found in the brand Pathé-Marconi (The Voice of its Master) which brings together Émile Pathé (1860-1937), leader of the phonographic record and the talking machine since the late nineteenth century, and Guglielmo Marconi (1874-1937).
In 1930, Marconi was appointed head of the Royal Academy of Italy by Mussolini, of whom, as a member of the Great Council of Fascism, he was a loyal supporter. In 1931 he made the first radio transmission of a pope, Pius XI, and at the time personally announced at the microphone, "With the help of God, who places so many mysterious forces at the disposal of humanity, I have succeeded in preparing this instrument that will give the faithful of the whole world the consolation of hearing the voice of the Holy Father."
His death, officially of a heart attack, in 1937, has often been considered suspicious.
He is said to have been the originator of a mysterious experiment, in 1936, and forbidden by the Pope, called "the death ray".
